About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. The Leo team is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering leader to drive the mechanical supply chain strategy for our Leo Ground Gateway Terminal hardware—owning everything from supplier capability assessment to production scalability. You'll work cross-functionally with procurement, quality, and operations to resolve technical tradeoffs, manage vendor relationships, and ensure we deliver reliable hardware at scale. This role combines hands-on engineering problem-solving with strategic supply chain ownership in a fast-moving aerospace environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years mechanical engineering experience with focus on manufacturing, supply chain, or production engineering
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX) including GD&T, DFM analysis, and supplier-ready drawing packages
  • Proven track record developing hardware through NPI, supplier qualification, and production ramp
  • Knowledge of supply chain planning, procurement processes, and vendor management
  • Experience creating functional specifications, supplier quality agreements, and inspection procedures
  • Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field
  • Background in contract manufacturing management and offshore supplier development
  • Familiarity with aerospace supply chain standards and quality systems (AS9100)
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter PLM, and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle)
  • Knowledge of cost modeling, should-cost analysis, and value engineering methodologies
  • Experience managing global supplier relationships

Responsibilities

  • Lead aerospace manufacturing engineering for mechanical engineering scope for Leo Ground Gateway Terminal (GGT) hardware, focusing on supply chain readiness, manufacturability, and production scalability
  • Own mechanical supply chain strategy, serving as primary interface to suppliers, contract manufacturers, procurement, and production operations teams with emphasis on supplier capability assessment, component sourcing strategy, and supply chain risk mitigation
  • Collaborate with procurement team members on component selection, vendor development, and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Support Ground Systems engineering with New Product Introduction (NPI) activities including supplier onboarding, first article inspections, production readiness reviews, and manufacturing transfer
  • Resolve technical tradeoffs impacting material costs, lead times, supplier capacity, and total cost of ownership
  • Partner with quality and operations teams on supplier performance management, yield improvement, and production issue resolution
  • Conduct supplier technical assessments and capability reviews for mechanical fabrication, , and precision manufacturing
