About The Position

The Sr. Accountant will drive accounting operations across multiple business units at a private equity-backed transportation services company in Kansas City. The role owns key accounting processes in a growing transportation and distribution environment and works closely with operations and finance teams. It offers Team Lead influence and an opportunity to grow into a Manager role.

Requirements

• Strong accounting operations expertise, including confidence handling day-to-day accounting functions and maintaining accurate financial records.
• Comfort supporting multiple business operations in transportation and distribution, including sector-specific revenue recognition and cost tracking challenges.
• Ability to work independently in a senior role, take ownership of accounting processes with minimal oversight, and proactively drive improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and detailed account analysis, to ensure timely and accurate financials.
• Maintain general ledger integrity by overseeing reconciliations and resolving discrepancies, keeping the books clean and audit-ready.
• Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits and support compliance with accounting standards.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and customer billing.
• Partner with operations and finance teams to improve financial reporting and processes.
