About The Position

Northern Trust is a global leader in wealth management, asset servicing, asset management, and banking services. The Private Capital Administration department provides third-party clients with comprehensive administration, financial accounting, and investor reporting services for their funds, including venture capital, buyout, mezzanine, life sciences, secondaries, and fund of funds. Services include assistance with investment and divestment execution, investor drawdown and distributions, financial reporting, and investor reporting. This role operates under general supervision, often working independently on large and/or complex projects. The candidate will serve as a technical expert and liaison for day-to-day queries, possessing broad and in-depth knowledge in their field and strong knowledge of related areas. This role involves complex, extensive, and high-profile activities, including direct interaction with committees and senior management, and requires excellent analytical, consultative, communication, and judgment skills. The position may involve leading projects and training lower-level staff, with a focus on maintaining and implementing policies and procedures while developing expertise.

Requirements

  • Four year degree program or related work experience in private equity accounting.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory reporting.
  • Analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong personal computer skills.
  • Well acquainted with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Investran preferred.
  • 3-4 years of private equity accounting experience with a related business degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years client servicing or related experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, exhibiting initiative, leadership, and flexibility.
  • Formal education in accounting and/or related business degree.
  • CPA accreditation.
  • Understanding of the complexities of the private equity markets via past work experience.
  • Experience with Investran and MS Suite of Systems (Excel/Access/Word) (intermediate/advanced level).

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of accounting, analytical, & financial reporting duties ensuring client and investor activity reporting is prepared and completed appropriately.
  • Serving as a technical accounting expert without management responsibilities and acting as a subject matter expert and key advisor on significant business/accounting decisions to team and partners.
  • Assisting in preparing, compiling, and verifying external client and regulatory reporting.
  • Preparing financial information for stockholders/investor reports.
  • Researching and assisting in interpreting the impact of recent accounting developments in the division and disseminating findings.
  • Communicating with partners to resolve discrepancies or provide assistance on accounting or disclosure issues.
  • Conducting special analysis and projects as assigned and preparing reports of detailed findings for management review.
  • Helping train and monitor performance of team members, co-workers, and client deliverables.
