About The Position

Under general direction, the Senior Accountant is responsible for moderately complex financial, accounting, and expense analysis. Core responsibilities include: electronic funds transfer (EFT) bank instruction validation; preparation of regulatory and compliance reports for claim financial data; accurate recording and reconciliation of Canadian claim transactions per established business and compliance requirements; balance sheet reconciliation; and support of SOX documentation and internal controls. Identifies and recommends process improvement opportunities. This position does not manage others.

Requirements

  • Two years of finance, accounting, financial planning, or related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, and/or professional designations, such as CPA, CMA or comparable advanced professional education.
  • Experience with accounting theory and practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with business partners.
  • Ability to analyze data to interpret trends and provide insights to management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Ability to foresee challenges and proactively look for ways to create more efficient processes for the business.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Financial Reporting Software (e.g., TM1, Essbase, Hyperion, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Perform financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Prepare and review documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Perform bank instruction validation for all outgoing electronic funds transfers to include wire and ACH transactions. Work closely with Global Treasury and Finance.
  • Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of Canadian claim transactions per established business and compliance requirements.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts; investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and 1099 data submission and inquiry research.
  • Monitor and oversee the Quality Assurance Dashboard Review process.
  • Interface with claim professionals, the claim senior management team, and other corporate departments to resolve issues and communicate operational protocols.
  • Serve as backup on financial and other operational tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
