About The Position

This position reports to a Chair, Assistant Dean, Assistant Director, Director, or other administrator of an advising office for an academic department, college, or campus. A Senior Academic Advisor II is an expert on advising practice, applying this expertise to program development, mentoring, and comprehensive advising of multifaceted student advising populations. The position develops policy, recommends appropriate counseling practice in a specialized program, and conducts advising which integrates academic, career, and social issues. A Senior Academic Advisor II serves as mentor to other Academic Advisors and support staff in practices and procedures, and serves on college or university advising policy committees. This position may supervise, but still has the major duty of performing direct advising requiring considerable contact with students through individual interviews, group meetings and workshops. A Senior Academic Advisors II is expected to possess comprehensive knowledge about academic programs, careers opportunities and student support services. This position is distinguished from a Sr. Academic Advisor through its extensive involvement in administration of an advising program, which involves training staff, acting as a consultant or direct advisor in more specialized cases, contributing to the development advising practices and policies, and leading initiatives on advising related committees.
