About The Position

The primary function of this position is to troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment at an expert level, as well as lead and coach other technicians. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are preferred but not required. This role involves checking equipment and supplies, complying with PPE requirements, and preparing for duties. The technician will use manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams for troubleshooting and repair. They will utilize lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to move parts. Hand and power tools will be used for various repair tasks. Proficiency in using resources and computers for parts referencing, information retrieval, and data entry is expected. The role includes disassembling/re-assembling parts, cleaning components, using test equipment for diagnostics, and controlling powered equipment. Accessing all parts of vehicles by climbing is necessary. The technician will use overhead hoists, lift devices, and forklifts to move components like tracks, idler wheels, and blades for repair and reassembly. Advanced proficiency in performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairing engine, power train, hydraulic, and electrical components on numerous model lines is required. Reprogramming equipment controllers using instruments and computers is also part of the duties. Leadership duties include assisting supervisors with performance appraisals, coaching and developing technicians, directing daily job assignments for up to five or more technicians, and ensuring proper troubleshooting techniques are used to meet customer and company expectations.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Eight years of Cat equipment experience.
  • Fully understands all equipment systems (i.e. engines, hydraulics, electrical, sub-electrical, transmissions, etc.) for almost all equipment model lines.
  • Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb besides, onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 100 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
  • Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Should have exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Provides training of other technicians.
  • Assigns work assignments.
  • Promotes good customer service and resolves their problems.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment at an expert level.
  • Lead and coach other technicians.
  • Check equipment and supplies required to perform the work scheduled, comply with PPE requirements, and otherwise prepare for duties.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, parts diagrams to perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired.
  • Use hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment.
  • Be proficient at using resources and computers to reference parts, get information about parts & enter data into record systems.
  • Use tools to disassemble/re assemble parts or equipment; cleans parts with rags, cleaners, power washer; uses test equipment to make diagnostic checks; and controls powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb up onto, under, & into vehicles to gain access to all parts of vehicle.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts & other aides to move items off vehicle (tracks, idler wheels, blades, etc.) & then to move parts to locations for disassembly, repair, then back to the vehicle for reassembly.
  • Perform inspections, do preventative maintenance, repair engine, power train, hydraulic and electrical components at an advance level on numerous model lines.
  • Lift/carry and position ram used to remove idlers, unbolt idlers, remove them.
  • Use power washers & spray paint equipment to clean & paint vehicle.
  • Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
  • Assist supervisor with performance appraisals.
  • Coach, guide and develop technicians.
  • Direct day to day job assignments and responsibilities for up to five or more technicians in squad.
  • Work with squad members to ensure proper T/S techniques are used to ensure that the product we turn out is a true representation of the customers’ and GPEC expectations.
