About The Position
The SQL Engineer – Level 3 is a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining complex SQL-based data solutions. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, serves as a subject matter expert in database and query performance, and influences data standards, architecture decisions, and best practices across teams.
Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and performance tuning
- Deep understanding of relational database design, normalization, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience with Microsoft Azure
- Strong experience working with large datasets and complex schemas
- Ability to design scalable, high-performance data solutions
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence technical standards and mentor peers
- Effective communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Significant experience in SQL engineering, data engineering, or database development
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical work
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain advanced SQL queries, views, functions, and stored procedures supporting mission-critical systems
- Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances
- Optimize database and query performance through indexing, execution plan analysis, and schema improvements
- Lead complex data modeling and transformation efforts for transactional and analytical use cases
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across databases and data pipelines
- Partner with engineering, ETL, BI, and product teams to define scalable data solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data quality, performance, and reliability issues
- Establish and promote SQL development standards, best practices, and documentation
- Contribute to architecture reviews and long-term data platform strategy
- Support data governance, security, and compliance requirements, including those applicable to regulated environments
