About The Position

This role owns and shapes our Microsoft-based database platforms—on‑prem and in Azure. You’ll be responsible for keeping data platforms stable, secure, fast, and recoverable, while also making them easier to operate and ready for what’s next. You’ll work with a “service mindset,” partnering closely with application teams and business stakeholders. That means anticipating needs, solving problems before they become incidents, and following through on what you commit to.

Requirements

  • 5+ years administering Microsoft SQL Server in production environments
  • Strong T‑SQL skills, including performance tuning and query optimization
  • Hands-on experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions
  • Comfort supporting Windows Server–based database platforms (Linux experience is a plus)
  • Experience with Azure PaaS database services is a strong plus
  • Automation or scripting experience, especially PowerShell
  • A problem‑solver’s mindset with the ability to juggle priorities without dropping the ball
  • Clear communication and documentation habits—you leave things better than you found them

Nice To Haves

  • Oracle database experience
  • Broader cloud platform exposure

Responsibilities

  • Own the health, reliability, and day‑to‑day operation of SQL Server environments across production, test, and development
  • Design, run, and improve Azure database platforms (Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance) with an emphasis on availability and scale
  • Monitor platforms proactively, troubleshoot issues, and lead incident response through resolution and root-cause analysis
  • Improve performance, resilience, and efficiency through tuning, upgrades, patching, and thoughtful platform changes
  • Build, test, and evolve backup, recovery, and disaster‑recovery solutions
  • Reduce technical debt by improving automation, standards, tooling, and operational processes
  • Partner with developers and infrastructure teams on application design, performance tuning, and data architecture
  • Document how things work—standards, runbooks, and processes—and keep them current
