About The Position

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines. This role involves meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections, accurately discerning and documenting deficiencies, and professionally representing the company. The inspector will complete service acknowledgments and inspections through communicating devices, follow a structured inspection schedule, make minor repairs and programming changes, and complete assigned inspections on time. The position also requires carrying and moving equipment, assisting in the installation of sprinkler systems, and performing work in difficult positions. A key aspect of this role is being enrolled in Grinnell's approved Apprenticeship Program and maintaining its requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • NICET I certification or ability to obtain within 8 months of hire.
  • NICET II certification or ability to obtain within 24 months of hire.
  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation, nights, and weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Willing to travel out of town.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines.
  • Meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections.
  • Accurately discerning and documenting deficiencies found during an inspection.
  • Professionally representing the company at all times.
  • Completing Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding through communicating devices.
  • Following and maintaining a highly structured inspection schedule.
  • Making minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.
  • Completing assigned inspections on time.
  • Performing other duties as directed.
  • Carrying/moving equipment and tools weighing up to 70lbs.
  • Assisting foreman in the installation of wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems.
  • Performing work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment.
