About The Position

PURPOSE OF POSITION: SpringNet Network Engineer I Under the direction of the Manager-SpringNet Network Architecture and Support or designee, is responsible for the operation of broadband Ethernet networks, security monitoring, and Internet services and its associated infrastructure operations. This includes, but is not limited to routers, switches, WDM/ROADM optical networks, network servers/virtual machines, storage area networks, firewalls, network security and network performance monitoring systems. Administration and design of MPLS/VPLS, OSPF and multi-homed BGP protocols. May help to identify, create, and maintain network tools. May assist in the planning, design, installation, and configuration of Ethernet and wireless networks and their associated support servers. SpringNet Network Engineer II or III In addition to the SpringNet Network Engineer I, a SpringNet Network Engineer II or III has increased ownership in the tasks and responsibilities listed above.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is required. Exceptional network engineering experience and networking certifications may be considered in lieu of the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One year recent responsibility for progressive high availability network administration and operations experience is required, including enterprise server experience utilizing Active Directory Management, Windows/Linux Server management/deployment, and virtualization such as VMware. Must have advanced experience designing, deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining Ethernet networks, configuring routers, and layer 2/3 switches. WDM and optical network experience desired. Must have networking abilities in DNS, SNMP, OSPF, BGP, network security, and associated protocols.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (minimum Class F).
  • Three years recent responsibility for progressive high availability network design, administration, and operations experience is required, including enterprise server experience utilizing Active Directory Management, Windows/Linux Server management/deployment, and virtualization such as VMware. Must have advanced experience designing, deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining Ethernet networks, configuring routers, layer 2/3 switches, and WDM/optical networks. Must have advanced networking abilities in DNS, SNMP, OSPF, BGP, network security, and associated protocols. Familiarity with administration of Internet Resource Records (IRR) and regional Internet registry ARIN is required. Familiarity with broadband provider administration expectations of CALEA Lawful Intercept (LI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) regarding critical infrastructure.
  • Six years recent responsibility for progressive high availability network design, administration, and operations experience is required, including enterprise server experience utilizing Active Directory Management, Windows/Linux Server management/deployment, and virtualization such as VMware. Must have advanced experience designing, deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining Ethernet networks, configuring routers, layer 2/3 switches, and WDM/optical networks. Must have advanced networking abilities in DNS, SNMP, OSPF, BGP, network security, and associated protocols. Competency in administration of Internet Resource Records (IRR) and regional Internet registry ARIN is required. Familiarity with broadband provider administration expectations of CALEA Lawful Intercept (LI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) regarding critical infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward certification such as CCNP/CCDP, CCIE/CCDE, or other related certification is preferred.
  • Advanced IT certification such as CCNP/CCDP, CCIE/CCDE, or other related certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Is self-directed, leads by example, assists others in gaining knowledge, and is accountable for providing cross training.
  • Assists with development and planning for monitoring, measuring, and evaluating customer services and community network infrastructure.
  • Assists with the development of network systems as strategic services to help SpringNet meet its strategic goals.
  • Assists with the analysis for expansion or change of enterprise computer and server equipment. May be required to make formal presentations for business solutions.
  • Provides more advanced trouble shooting skills for performance related problems and advises appropriate parties on corrective measures.
  • Provides technical assistance for all SpringNet services.
  • Documents SpringNet systems and processes. Documentation must be capable of providing critical information for knowledge transfer and business continuation.
  • First level escalation responsible for the restoration of the Ethernet network, servers, and network security related service outages.
  • Supports and maintains SpringNet security policies.
  • Administration of MPLS/VPLS, OSPF and multi-homed BGP protocols
  • Administration of WDM/ROADM optical networks, network servers/virtual machines, firewalls, and network security.
  • Administration of Internet Resource Records (IRR) and regional Internet registry ARIN.
  • Administration of CALEA Lawful Intercept (LI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in regards to critical infrastructure.
  • Assists with configuration and patch maintenance on all systems.
  • Administration of private and public IP address records for SpringNet and its customers.
  • Assists in maintaining all backup systems and business integration of SpringNet servers and infrastructure.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management.
