This role operates Monday-Friday on the 2nd Shift from 3pm-11pm, with potential for overtime and weekend/holiday work during peak seasons. The position requires flexibility with scheduling, as 40-50 hours a week are expected. The Spotter will operate out of Woodridge, IL, and must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment, adhering to all safe driving practices and DOT guidelines. The primary responsibility is to drive and maintain a spotter vehicle, moving empty and loaded trailers between docks and the yard. This includes using landing gear, opening/closing trailer doors, and ensuring trailers are properly loaded, secured, and closed before movement. Daily pre- and post-trip inspections, as well as daily yard checks to identify and tag out-of-service trailers, are crucial. The role also involves arranging trailers in the yard efficiently and requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and around moving equipment. Attention to detail, logical reasoning, common sense, and independent problem-solving are essential. The physical demands include walking, standing, sitting, hearing, seeing, moving, driving, reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly. Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Hazmat Endorsed
  • Ability to meet all DOT requirements
  • Class A CDL
  • Pre-employment Background check and Drug Screen Required
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Reliable transportation
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Previous experience
  • Tractor trailer experience required
  • Driving: 1 year (Required)
  • Class A CDL and Hazmat/Tanker Endorsement with the current DOT Medical Card.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and maintain a spotter vehicle, moving empty and loaded trailers from dock to yard or yard to docks as assigned.
  • Use landing gear to drop trailers; open and close swinging trailer doors and rise and lower roll-up doors.
  • Ensures the trailer is completely loaded and secured before moving from the dock area; ensures trailer doors are closed while not in the dock.
  • Perform Daily Pre-and Post-Trip Inspection – Report any vehicle mechanical problems immediately.
  • Perform Daily Yard Checks - Inspect and Red Tag “out-of-service” trailers and defective equipment.
  • Arranges trailers in the yard in an orderly and efficient manner.
  • Operate moving equipment and work around moving equipment.
  • Pay close attention to detail while constantly aware of the work surroundings when operating a vehicle.
  • Reason logically, use common sense, and resolve issues independently.
  • Perform any other additional duties as assigned by management.
