Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Spotters are responsible for maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow in the unloading area, inspecting waste received at the MRF for hazardous and unauthorized waste, sorting of waste by type, and ensuring that drivers and pedestrians are kept at a safe distance from all heavy equipment and industrial operations. The role involves actively inspecting loads for unauthorized material, enforcing MRF safety requirements, spotting trucks, and controlling traffic in the unloading area. Spotters also inspect and remove hazardous and unauthorized waste, communicate effectively with team members, coordinate the stoppage of activities to remove hazardous waste, and report emergencies. Additional duties include providing fuels to heavy equipment, preparing daily log sheets, performing litter control, keeping tipping areas clean, operating equipment like skid steers and backhoes, sorting recyclables and waste tires, and separating metals. The position requires attending training, including HAZWOPER, and responding to spills. Compliance with safety data sheets, proper handling and storage of items, and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures are essential. The role also requires performing other duties as assigned.
