About The Position
WILX and WSYM are seeking a high-energy Sports Reporter and Anchor to join their team. This role involves anchoring sportscasts, shooting, writing, and editing sports packages, driving digital content on various platforms, leading high school sports coverage, and enterprise local features. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sports, community-focused, and possess strong digital and MMJ skills.
Requirements
- A killer on-air presence: You’re confident, authentic, and you know how to connect with an audience.
- Digital-first DNA: You understand that "the game" happens on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and our app just as much as it happens on the field.
- Scrappy MMJ skills: You’re a pro at shooting your own video and editing on the fly.
- Deep sports IQ: You know your way around a playbook and can speak the language of everything from Big Ten basketball to local golf.
- Urgency and accuracy: You thrive under the pressure of a ticking clock and never sacrifice the facts for speed.
- A team-player mindset: You’re ready to jump in, take feedback, and help the whole team win.
- A degree in Journalism or a related field
- A valid driver’s license
- A clean driving record
Responsibilities
- Own the sports desk: Anchor high-energy sportscasts that move beyond simple highlights to provide the context and depth our viewers crave.
- Tell "More Than a Game" stories: Shoot, write, and edit compelling packages that capture the raw emotion and community pride of Mid-Michigan sports.
- Drive the digital conversation: Break stories on our website, mobile app, social media channels – engage with fans on digital platforms and find creative ways to grow our streaming presence.
- Lead the "Prep Rally": Take a front-row seat in our award-winning live high school, college, and pro sports coverage, from Friday night football specials to athlete profiles.
- Enterprise local features: Dig deep to find the stories no one else is telling, building relationships with coaches, athletes, and local legends.
