About The Position

Join Our Team as a Sports Program Assistant for Track and Field πŸŽ½πŸ‘Ÿ We are looking for an energetic individual to lead and manage our youth track-and-field programs. You will oversee daily operations for track meets and training sessions to ensure a high-quality experience for all athletes. Your responsibilities include officiating events, supervising coaches, and coordinating field preparations. You will also manage administrative duties, such as team registrations and website updates, to keep the community informed. This role requires making critical decisions regarding participant safety and inclement weather. We value candidates with at least 6 months of experience working with individuals with disabilities in a recreation setting. You must hold a high school diploma or GED and possess strong customer service skills. Help us foster a professional and inclusive environment for track enthusiasts of all ages. The hiring rate for this role is $18.00/hour. The deadline for submitting applications is April 20, 2026. Position overview - The Sports Program Assistant manages a variety of duties including the operation of sports programs and facilities while ensuring quality customer service.

Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: High School diploma or GED
  • Experience: At least 6 months of experience working with individuals with disabilities in recreation programs or similar activities
  • Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning, and administration. Considerable knowledge of officiating, sports, and recreation. Will have general knowledge of assigned sport including rules and regulations. Understands how the game is played including the principles, practice, and techniques used in recreational sporting events. Comprehend and apply the rules of baseball and softball.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Must have strong computer skills to include keyboarding, Microsoft Office suites (Word, Xcel and Power Point) and the internet. Skill in operation of relevant tools and equipment. Strong people, communication, and conflict management skills.
  • Abilities: The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens and private organizations. The ability to respond to customer inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. The ability to motivate staff, create a positive work environment, and hold staff accountable for achieving measurable goals and developing their skills. The ability to handle sensitive and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy Ability to recognize, analyze, and implement needed organizational systems. Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program. Has the ability to handle participants, team managers and/or coaches under difficult game situations.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. Current CPR and First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates all assigned activities, games, and programs.
  • Adheres to all schedules provided by Sports Staff. Includes referees, officials, community service, game time, practice time, and forfeit time.
  • Makes decisions regarding crowd control, inclement weather, darkness, lightening, etc.
  • Answers and interprets all questions/problems regarding rules and regulations during any athletic event.
  • Maintains accurate records for the following: community service individuals, league standings (when applicable), other part time staff under their supervision.
  • Officiates games when necessary.
  • Supervises and coordinates leagues, coaches and fields.
  • Trains, schedules, and supervises umpires
  • Inputs registrations and forms teams, evaluates umpires, checks fields, and ensures field preparation.
  • Provides customer service for coaches, parents, and team players.
  • Assists with facility operations duties at ASP or Olympic Park.
  • Develops website content.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.
