About The Position

Officials will provide competent leadership as a representative of the City with the responsibility to control games in various City Adult Sports Programs, including the adult softball league. The role involves officiating and scorekeeping for adult sports programs, using authority with a common sense approach to effectively control games, and commanding the respect of coaches, parents, and participants. The official must know and interpret rules of play, make judgment calls, react intuitively to play situations, and support the aims and principles of adult sports. This includes understanding the comparable skills and limitations of adult participants, keeping official scores, recording statistics, maintaining the scoreboard, and assisting with field set-up and take-down as needed. A clean, neat appearance is required.

Requirements

Equivalent to graduation from high school
Prior experience umpiring adult softball games
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must possess a current USA Softball Umpire Certification
First Aid and CPR certification
Valid and appropriate California Driver’s license

Responsibilities

Officiates and score keeps for the adult sports program (including, but not limited to, Adult Softball)

Maintains the scoreboard
Assist with field set-up and take-down as needed
Must maintain a clean, neat appearance
