About The Position

The YMCA of the East Valley is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Program Director II, the Sports Official II is responsible for supporting YMCA operations through effective delivery of programs, services, and member engagement. This position contributes to the achievement of Association goals by promoting the YMCA mission, values, and strategic priorities while providing high-quality service to members, participants, staff, and the community.

Requirements

  • The ability to lead a group of children (ages 3 & up)
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in applicable technology, software, and systems.

  • Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Maintain acceptable driving record in accordance with YMCA policy.
  • Maintain required automobile insurance coverage.
  • Use reliable transportation for Association business.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching tumbling or gymnastics is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in alignment with YMCA mission, policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Deliver high-quality customer/member service to participants, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Support departmental and Association goals through effective communication, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and required professional development activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Support risk management and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support operational needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate and teach basic skills to a group of children (ages 3 & up).
  • Knowledgeable in teaching progressive skills.
  • Report to scheduled work shifts on a timely basis; 15 minutes before the class arrives in order to be prepared. Will also need to ensure that the room used is clean before leaving.
  • Secure substitutes whenever unable to work assigned shifts. Substitution information must be shared with supervisor, and changes should be in writing.
  • Promote a safe atmosphere at the YMCA. Be professional, alert, courteous, and tactful with all members and staff.
  • Must notify supervisor of any broken equipment, or other maintenance concerns in the appropriate time period.
  • Responsible for knowing and implementing emergency procedures as needed.
  • Must attend all staff meetings, and are encouraged to participate in at least 2 special events hosted by the YMCA.
  • Must wear appropriate uniform when teaching class; name badge is a must.
  • Responsible for informing class participants of upcoming events, information about classes, reminders about the next session, etc.
  • Provide safe and friendly atmosphere for members participating in class.
  • Enhance member and staff relationships.
  • Provide quality customer service to members and staff.
  • Increase member participation in YMCA programs and improve member retention to achieve goal of 62-68%.
