About The Position

The City of Bishop is accepting applications for the position of Sports Official and Assistant Sports Official for the upcoming Adult Soccer League. This is a seasonal position, with the season running from August to October. The Sports Official supervises sporting events, working in the capacity of a referee or umpire, and is provided with specified and updated rules for the sport by the Community Services Manager. The Official receives general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor and/or the Community Services Director. In cases of rule violations or conflicts, the Official must contact the Recreation Supervisor for review or disciplinary measures. An Assistant Sports Official may be provided for game support in technical areas and along boundary lines.

Requirements

• Ability to react calmly and effectively in situations.
• Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
• Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Responsibilities

• Supervise sporting events, working in the capacity of a referee or umpire.
• Know and understand all rules for the game as specified by the City of Bishop.
• Ensure fair play at all times.
• Watch players and call penalties when rules of the game have been broken.
• Record time and progress of the game when necessary.
• Make binding decisions on matters during the game, with the option to confer with the Assistant Official for an opinion.
• Contact the Recreation Supervisor for review or disciplinary measures when rules have been broken and a conflict has occurred.
