Sports Business Student Intern, Summer 2027 (Remote)
About The Position
The Athletic is seeking applications for its Leon H. Carter newsroom internship, a 12-week program running from June 2027 to August 2027. This internship can be remote or based in New York City. The intern will be embedded on the Sports Business team, gaining exposure to various aspects of the newsroom, including projects with the video and data teams. Responsibilities will include selective day-to-day reporting and writing, conducting daily industry research to identify potential stories, and developing story-pitching skills. The intern will also have one-on-one meetings with reporters and editors specializing in Sports Business. The pay rate for this role is $25.00 USD per hour. The application deadline is 10/30/2026.
Requirements
- Undergraduate students who are ideally in their junior or senior year. All undergraduates and post graduates are encouraged to apply however.
- Ability to work a 30 to 40 hour work week.
- Flexibility: ability to adapt to fast-paced work environments where needs and priorities can change quickly.
- Deep knowledge of and a passion for sports.
Nice To Haves
- Previous newsroom internship experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience creating video is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Working on projects with a specific vertical collaborating with the Sports Business desk.
- Conducting interviews with subject-matter experts and newsmakers.
- Creating first-person explainer videos on sports-business topics.
- Helping to curate and create the weekly MoneyCall Sports Business newsletter.
