About The Position

A Splicing Technician at IdeaTek is a hardworking, detail-focused individual dedicated to building and supporting our growing network infrastructure. Each day, you will work independently to handle various field operations, primarily focusing on performing precise splicing of fiber optic cables in various outdoor conditions. This role requires a passion for problem-solving, as you will maintain intricate splicing schematics and take precise field notes to ensure project timelines are met. The individual in this role will support services and work in the field throughout South Central Kansas. Employees will travel to our Buhler, Kansas office (111 Old Mill Lane) for training, meetings or as required.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a field-based technical role (e.g., fiber splicer, telecommunications technician, line worker, low voltage technician, or cable installer).
  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to differentiate colors accurately.
  • Comfortable working in both underground and aerial environments, including climbing ladders up to 32ft.
  • Ability to enter and safely operate a bucket truck with a weight limit of 300 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work an on-call rotation (nights, weekends, and holidays) and regular Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform splicing of fiber optic cables in various outdoor conditions.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of and accurately update splicing schematics and spreadsheets.
  • Take precise splicing and field notes to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of both aerial and underground fiber network infrastructure.
  • Complete fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and business installations, drop placements, and prompt repairs.
  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve customer connectivity and service problems.
  • Install and repair residential and business VoIP services to ensure high-quality communication.
  • Work independently to handle installation, splicing, and repair tasks from start to finish.
  • Provide an exceptional experience to customers by being friendly, patient, and efficient.
