About The Position

The Splicing Technician installs, splices, tests, repairs, and maintains Verizon’s fiber-optic network and related outside plant facilities to help ensure reliable service. The role includes preparing cables for splicing, rearranging and terminating cable conductors, installing and maintaining access lines for various equipment and technologies, and performing telecommunications construction work. The technician operates trucks and designated equipment, interprets engineering plans and vendor specifications, and performs work safely. This is an onsite, worksite-based role with 40 scheduled hours per week. Work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts based on business needs.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors, distinguish audio tones, and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Related associate degree or at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of telecommunications construction.
• Successful completion of the Field Operations Assessment and Verizon Job Fit Test B.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cable conductors for splicing, rearranging, and termination.
• Perform splicing operations for installation, rearrangement, and repair of outside plant facilities.
• Operate trucks and equipment needed for work operations safely.
• Install, repair, maintain, and test access lines for all types of equipment and technology.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment to dig holes, place poles, lay cable or conduit, and unreel, pull, and string wire or cable on poles.
• Read and interpret engineering plans and vendor specifications.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
