About The Position

The Spiritual Health Intern Unpaid is an educational program designed to fulfill one unit of education towards the four total units required for Chaplain certification by the Associate of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). This 10-week program is offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer, with each student expected to complete 100 hours of education and 300 hours of supervised clinical experience under accredited Spiritual Health Educators. Selection into the program is based on an application process adhering to ACPE guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an undergraduate school or completion of a theological bachelor's degree or ordination by a religious/spiritual authority.
  • 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing).
  • Environmental exposures may include: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste, Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases, Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work.
  • Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in Master's level theological training (wording may vary according to Tradition-not required but desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Participate and observe as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team in providing spiritual care to patients and families.
  • Participate and observe in continuous collaboration with educator, team members, and other health care professionals to promote an environment of care, healing, and professional development.
  • Learn by participating in reflection groups, individual consultation, and didactics totaling at least 100 hours for one unit.
  • Assist in the leadership of worship services as required at each site.
  • Understand and comply with Spiritual Health and CPE policies, and applicable Emory Healthcare policies.
  • Understand and comply with infection control, safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations.
  • Once enrolled/accepted, register with ACPE to complete one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.
