About The Position

The Newman Center at the Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi campus is hiring a full-time Spiritual Formation Coordinator. This role involves supporting and upholding the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi. The coordinator will act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church and will continuously grow in their ministry through participation in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities. The position requires modeling and encouraging the spiritual growth of all students in Newman Center activities while remaining sensitive to their diversity. The coordinator will assist the Rector-Chaplain in the development of spiritual formation activities, discernment programs, and the spiritual formation of students, including OCIA instruction, sacramental preparation, and marriage preparation. They will also encourage active participation in liturgies and assist in facilitating various retreats and reflection events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • At least two years of ministry experience with a college or university campus ministry or young adult ministry.
  • Know the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them with an openness to learn more about the Faith.
  • Submit to employment required screenings, criminal background check, and drug screening.
  • Certified in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources.
  • Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures.
  • MVR requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Continuously grow in ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities.
  • Model and encourage the spiritual growth of all students in Newman Center activities while remaining sensitive to the diversity of students.
  • Assist the Rector-Chaplain for the development of spiritual formation activities.
  • Assist the Rector-Chaplain, in collaboration with the Diocesan Vocation Director, for programs and content of discernment nights and other co-sponsored events.
  • Provide spiritual accompaniment and training to students in the discipleship training program.
  • Assist the Rector-Chaplain in the spiritual formation of students including: OCIA Instruction, Sacramental Preparation, Marriage Preparation.
  • Encourage active participation in liturgies by inviting students to be liturgical ministers (Ministry of Hospitality, Lectors, Altar Servers, Music Ministry).
  • Assist the Rector-Chaplain in facilitating days of reflection, spiritual conferences, and retreats including Freshmen retreats, Senior retreats, Islander Awakening Retreat, Huddles, and Encounter Nights.
