Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree Accredited program 4 Years REQUIRED or Will accept 4 years of experience in congregational pastoral care (not general ministry) in lieu of a Bachelor's degree REQUIRED
• Master's Degree Master's of Divinity, Theology, or related degree from a Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) accredited theological school 72-hour degree program preferred
• Without a Bachelor's degree - 4 years of experience in Congregational Pastoral Care REQUIRED or With a Bachelor's degree - no previous experience required REQUIRED
• Good communication skills, both written and oral.
• Competency in basic computer use and electronic communication tools, e.g., email, calendar.
• Ability to work with and relate to people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to offer non-anxious presence and work with people during a time of crisis and bereavement, offering compassionate care.
• Proficiently document patient care in the electronic medical record and demonstrate this proficiency.
• Ability to offer religious and spiritual rituals as requested by patients and/or staff.
• When appropriate, ability to refer to outside clergy to meet patient sacramental or religious rites needs.
• Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that supports various entities/locations based upon patient volumes and operational needs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in congregational or hospital setting preferred
• 1 unit of CPE from an ACPE-accredited center HIGHLY PREFERRED

Responsibilities

• Patient care: Provide professional pastoral and spiritual care to patients and their loved ones, using excellent listening, observational, assessment, and interventional skills.
• Assess patient and family spiritual resources and vulnerabilities, offering corresponding interventions.
• Document care in electronic medical record, using Pastoral Care standardized processes.
• Ability to respond to calls within 10 minutes and arrive within 30 minutes.
• Provide on-call report when called into the hospital.
• Support Spiritual Care Department: Report payroll exceptions promptly.
• Participate in Pastoral Care staff meetings.
• Be knowledgeable of and comply with all Pastoral Care Department policies and procedures.
• Complete required Pastoral Care Department training and any MyTalent modules when assigned.
• When providing in-house coverage, participate in the ritual life of the hospital, e.g., FINAL SALUTES, memorial services, award ceremonies, and other similar celebrations and special events within the hospital.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
