About The Position

The Speech Therapist provides skilled therapy to maximize speech, language, cognitive and swallowing abilities. Assists clients by providing rehabilitative services to persons with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments.

Requirements

  • Valid License in the State of Ohio for Speech Therapist
  • Knowledge of the skills and abilities necessary to perform direct personal therapy care for individuals in their homes, and the ability to perform these skills and abilities with compassion, accuracy and dependability.
  • Knowledge of the correct practice Universal Precautions and the ability to apply Universal Precautions to the performance of job responsibilities in home health care.
  • Knowledge of the use of support equipment such as, but not limited to, lifts, wheel chairs, walkers, canes, and crutches, and the ability to instruct and assist individuals in the use of this equipment with safety, caution, and care.
  • Knowledge of the correct completion of required written and oral reporting, and the ability to give concise, accurate and timely reports as required or requested.
  • Knowledge of the correct procedures for emergencies including, but not limited to, fire and health emergencies, and the ability to reach calmly and accurately.
  • The ability to recognize changes in the client's condition and/or behavior, and to report these changes in a timely manner to the Director of Nursing and/or other agency affiliations.
  • Knowledge of the procedures and philosophies constituting the delivery of exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, including the accurate use of highway and street maps
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments and consumers.
  • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with staff, clients and the general public.
  • Ability to be trained to accurately operate equipment necessary to the function of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides skilled therapy care under the right to practice as a Speech Therapist
  • Follows a plan of care that is congruous with the physician's orders through assessment and patient needs, condition, environment, and consultation with other health team members.
  • Updates plan of care regularly, as necessary, and documents this care following agency procedures.
  • Delivers professional and excellent patient care in the home.
  • Maintains an ongoing responsibility for assigned caseload, including securing coverage for scheduled therapy visits to patients and personally providing care when no other coverage can be secured.
  • Implements and evaluates individual patient plan of care
  • Provides teaching and counsels both the patient and the family.
  • Provides emotional support and motivation with friendliness, care and compassion
  • Schedules the workload for maximum efficiency
  • Rotates weekend, night, and holiday calls with staff to facilitate adequate coverage for all patients.
  • Participates in the agency evaluation program
  • Abides by and promotes agency administrative policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a continuing knowledge of competencies related to the therapy profession by participating in formal education programs, conferences, workshops, and professional organizations.
  • Participates in staff in-service programs and therapy meetings
  • Appropriately and accurately completes required agency records; maintains communication with the agency.
  • Recognizes emergencies and reacts appropriately and accurately with emergency procedures; practices basic home safety
  • Practices Universal Precautions for infection control including, but no limited to, hand washing techniques.
  • Other job-related duties as requested or required.
