About The Position

A Staff Speech Therapist provides professional services in speech and language skills programs in outpatient and inpatient settings as well as in the patient’s home. This includes evaluation of all assigned patients, the development of goal-oriented treatment plans, administration and implementation of the treatment program, and appropriate discharge planning. Experience with pediatrics and outpatient speech therapy is necessary.

Requirements

Master’s degree or complete an equivalent education program in speech-language pathology.
Ability to pass specific competencies for this position.
Proficient oral and written communication.
Hold and maintain Speech–Language Pathologist Illinois Licensure.
CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

1-year professional speech therapist experience preferred.
Experience with pediatrics and outpatient speech therapy necessary.

Responsibilities

Supports and promotes an environment conducive to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills to determine patient’s functional level and needs.
Develops goals and appropriate treatment plan considering evaluation results, medical status, patient needs, patient age, and probable discharge situation in collaboration with patient, significant others, and other health care personnel.
Provides counseling, guidance, and language development therapy, to improve communication skills through vocal exercises and cognitive therapies.
Diagnosis, evaluate and develop plan of care/treatment of swallowing concerns and issues.
Records and evaluates findings to assist in establishing or revising specifics of the individualized treatment program.
Performs necessary sessions in accordance with the plan of care to restore language function, articulations, fluency, or resonance disorder, which prevents them from either being understood or understanding others following disease or injury.
Takes an active role in patient care conferences and/or communicates with the physicians and others on the health care team and make appropriate referrals.
Re-evaluates patient status as prescribed by policy and modifies treatment plans based on patient’s response to treatment modalities.
Participates in discharge planning.
Prepares patient documentation for the medical record accurately, thoroughly, within the prescribed times using clear succinct objective language.
Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information.
Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.

Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
