Requirements

  • A graduate of an accredited school
  • Current Iowa license as a Speech Language Pathologist / SLP or proactively in the process of the application process for current state licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist / SLP.
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Acquire pertinent information relating to the patient.
  • Evaluate and assess the speech, language, and/or swallowing skills of patients through various diagnostic tools and observation.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment and diagnosis.
  • Provide direct therapy to patients to improve speech and language skills, communication and/or swallowing.
  • Teach and provide strategies to help patients improve.
  • Re-evaluate/modify treatment in response to changing patient needs.
  • Record all pertinent patient information relating to evaluation, treatment.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional accountability with respect to safety, efficiency, effectiveness, ethics and legal issues.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication with patients, their families, medical staff, colleagues and the public.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient assessments, progress, and treatment plans in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports for patients, family members, and other healthcare providers to communicate progress and treatment outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families about speech and language disorders, treatment options, and preventative care.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and techniques in speech therapy through continuing education and professional development.
  • Advocate for the needs of the patients.
  • Support patients in overcoming barriers.
