About The Position

This position establishes skilled speech treatment plans for residents and conducts skilled speech services. The role involves working cooperatively with other IDT members to design integrated plans, providing supportive documentation, and ensuring assessments and goals are met within established timeframes. The Speech Therapist will also provide direction and training for speech-related services implemented by non-speech staff, conduct in-service training for departmental staff, and attend all mandatory training. Responsibilities include reviewing medical records, gathering assessment information through interviews, completing initial evaluations and re-certifications, attending and conducting department meetings, and ensuring compliance with safety rules and regulations. The role may also involve recommending new equipment purchases, serving on committees, completing special projects, and supervising CFY candidates according to ASHA regulations. All other duties assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation are also part of this role.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of assessment and treatment in general speech therapy and developmental disabilities.

  • Must be a citizen or national of the U.S., a Lawful Permanent Resident, or an alien authorized to work.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must pass two TB Skin Tests.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes skilled speech treatment plans for residents.
  • Conducts skilled speech services to residents including symbolic language, dysphasia, aphasia, voice treatment, and treatment for communication and assistive devices.
  • Works cooperatively with other IDT members to design integrated plans and provide supportive documentation.
  • Identifies goals, objectives, and plans for all patients receiving ST services within established time frames or of recommended changes and ensures all target dates are current.
  • Ensures assessments are completed within established timeframes and that cost information is forwarded to the appropriate sources in a timely manner.
  • Attends and actively participates in clinics and meetings.
  • Uses the appropriate lines of communication and resources within the system to facilitate change and resolve problems.
  • Provides direction and training for speech related services implemented by non-speech staff as assigned or as necessary.
  • Provides in-service training to departmental staff on topics relevant to departmental goals.
  • Attends and successfully completes all mandatory training as scheduled.
  • Assists with additional activities as assigned.
  • Reviews medical records to collect data that is relevant to the assessment as assigned and instructed.
  • Gathers additional assessment information through interview of client, staff, and family as assigned.
  • Completes initial evaluation and subsequent re-certifications as needed.
  • Attends department and other meetings.
  • Conducts department meetings as assigned and completes ancillary documentation and communication.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations.
  • Initiates and recommends appropriate corrective action necessary when violations are seen.
  • Maintains clean and safe environments ensuring orderly work area throughout the unit are maintained.
  • Recommends purchase of new equipment.
  • May serve on committees as designated by supervisor and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Performs supervision of CFY candidates according to ASHA regulations.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.
