About The Position

Evaluates and treats speech and language pathologies in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting, providing professional speech language pathology services for the care and treatment of patients. The SLP evaluates and administers treatments to patients experiencing speech/language, language-based cognition, and/or swallowing difficulties to maximize patient’s communication and/or swallowing abilities. The SLP promotes the health and well-being of the people we serve.

Requirements

  • Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech/Language Pathology from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or eligible for clinical fellowship year.
  • Licensed in the State of Michigan
  • BLS certification
  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program in Speech/ Language Pathology.
  • Basic clinical skills providing speech/language pathology services.
  • Willingness to be training in additional evaluations/ treatments based on needs of clinic and community
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing work situations.
  • Ability to type to complete EMR documentation in a timely manner.
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the patient's age.
  • Willingness to be trained in specialty areas as indicated by needs of the clinic to meet patient needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience treating Adult and Pediatric patients preferred
  • Experience with voice disorders preferred
  • Previous Experience with adult patients in videofluroscopic swallow studies preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes initial speech therapy evaluation and develops a treatment plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Provides Speech therapy treatment after analyzing patient information to determine the needs and problems appropriate for speech and language pathologies.
  • Documents patient treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in a timely manner in accordance with hospital policies and insurance requirements.
  • Performs speech therapy re-evaluations to assess patient progress; recommends changes to the treatment plan of care as appropriate.
  • Prepares and adapts instructional material and therapy aids.
  • Assists in scheduling patient treatments/appointments along with referring patients to other hospital services.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
  • Communicates regularly with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patient families, insurance companies and other regarding patient’s treatment and progress.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values and customer service initiatives. Adheres to organization’s policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Lead or direct the activities of Rehab Aides, students and volunteers. Ensuring that department policies and procedures are upheld and that quality patient care is provided.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement activities within department, health system and/or community.
  • Compliance with Infection Control Standards, including Standard/Universal Precautions, Hand Hygiene and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in maintaining therapy equipment and cleaning treatment areas; orders supplies as necessary to ensure environmental safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
