For more information, visit nyit.edu. NYTech’s College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Speech Pathologist, part time, located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus. The Speech/Language Pathology Service provides direct service to patients with communication and swallowing disorders.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with a major in speech-language pathology.
  • Holds a certificate of clinical competence and licensure granted by the American Speech and Hearing Association
  • Required field of expertise in Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Must be competent in creating hand and wrist splints.
  • Must be able to recommend and educate in the use of adaptive equipment for facilitation of activities in daily living.

Nice To Haves

  • preferred expertise in Geriatric Rehabilitation.
  • A Health and Wellness Certification is preferred.
  • CPR Certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide treatment of patients according to accepted standards of clinical practice and applicable insurance guidelines.
  • Evaluation of patients using accepted standard of clinical practice and assessment batteries appropriate to the patient’s diagnosis are administered.
  • Writes comprehensive speech, language, cognitive, voice and/or swallowing report that are sent to the referring physician.
  • Completes daily notes and progress reports in a timely manner.
  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Actively participates in the process of patient, family and staff education/counseling.
  • Individuals with Parkinson’s disease are specifically treated with modification of Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) program or Speak Out! Program. Additional therapies include speech, language, cognitive linguistics, dysphagia and voice.
  • Attend clinical rounds, departmental meetings, and care plan meetings and reports patient status and progress in accordance with facility standards.
  • Maintains annual continuing education requirements for clinical practice.
