About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a Speech Pathologist for their Inpatient unit in Trenton. This role involves assessing and evaluating patients, determining appropriate treatment plans, and providing speech, language, and swallowing therapy services. The Speech Pathologist will be responsible for documenting all aspects of patient care in a timely and effective manner. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited speech language pathology school or education approved by the NJ State Board of Speech Language Pathology Examiners.
  • AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Licensed as a speech-language pathologist by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Committee.
  • One year of experience preferred with patient populations specific to the position including acute adult inpatient, adult outpatient, or pediatric.
  • 2 hours of Stroke related Continuing Education contact hours annually if working in an acute care setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competence.
  • Ongoing continuing education courses.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat patients in the hospital, outpatient clinic, and under the hospital at home program.
  • Gather and synthesize data from patients, families, records, observations, and other healthcare providers.
  • Use appropriate and thorough evaluation techniques and standardized testing.
  • Work within the scope of services policy for speech language pathology.
  • Develop treatment plans and establish measurable goals for patients.
  • Implement treatment plans using appropriate procedures, exercises, and facilitation.
  • Instruct patients, families, and caregivers in therapies and activities to improve patient function, facilitate discharge, and maximize home instruction carryover.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Coordinate with external healthcare providers and others, including effective communication and advocacy for patients.
  • Document evaluations, care, attendance, and discharge of patients completely and effectively.
  • Document time spent with patients and ensure reports are accurate and clear.
  • Document patient encounters, including date, time, and accurate charging.
  • Complete data reports, questionnaires, and surveys measuring patient outcomes.
  • Ensure timely documentation, including submission of attendance and charging records.
  • Engage in professional development of self and staff.
  • Participate in educational opportunities and self-directed learning.
  • Participate in committees, special projects, performance improvement activities, and presentations.
  • Take responsibility for problems or issues related to patient care or department operations.
  • Employ positive problem-solving techniques and work towards full resolution of issues.
  • Shift among campuses to fulfill patient needs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate willingness to adapt to changing departmental demands.
