About The Position

This is a part-time or PRN opportunity for a Dysphagia Management Specialist in physician's office/clinic settings, surrounding nursing homes, and a specialized TeleTherapy Portal. The role offers a combination of on-site diagnostics and tele-therapy, focusing on dysphagia skills through FEES and Speech Pathology Diagnostics. The DMS Out-Patient/Physician's Office/ HHC specialized program has been developed over the past 8 years and has a proven record of success in all settings, including tele-therapy. Candidates can choose to specialize in Dysphagia Diagnosis utilizing FEES and short-term therapy, or focus solely on therapy. The Dysphagia Systems Test (DST) evaluates the five systems required for safe swallowing: Muscular, Neurological, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, and Cognitive. The role involves presenting a customized diagnostic profile and recommendations for diet, therapy, and further evaluations, incorporating the patient's entire Care Team. DMS provides access to online CE content, a weekend scoping course, an observational period, and a comprehensive in-the-field learning experience to become skilled in FEES to ASHA standards. A pre/post educational Self-Assessment of Skills is performed to document ASHA-required knowledge and skills. DMS provides all necessary equipment for endoscopic swallowing studies, a mentor program, weekly team calls, and continuing education. A commitment to stay with DMS throughout the mentorship results in zero tuition for training. The position offers a pay system that rewards building successful customer relationships and providing clinically excellent diagnostics.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Completion of Certificate of Clinical Competency
  • At least 5 years of experience in long-term care following completion of CFY

Responsibilities

  • Perform FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) and Speech Pathology Diagnostics.
  • Utilize the Dysphagia Systems Test (DST) to evaluate swallowing systems.
  • Present customized diagnostic profiles and recommendations for diet, therapy, and further evaluations.
  • Incorporate the patient's entire Care Team into the evaluation process.
  • Provide short-term therapy for dysphagia patients.
  • Conduct tele-therapy sessions from home.
  • Build successful relationships with customers.
  • Provide clinically excellent diagnostics.
