Requirements

  • Speech/Language Therapist (1099)
  • License Department of Education Certificate #IND1

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized professional therapy, evaluations and remediation for a variety of disorders and/or delays (e.g. articulation disorders, cognitive impairments or delays, social language use or pragmatic disorders, expressive and receptive language impairments or delays, fluency/stuttering, voice disorders, auditory processing disorder, oral motor and oral feeding issues, dysphagia, etc.).
  • Develop goals and objectives for intervention when appropriate.
  • Provide input into the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
  • Provide specialized professional therapy during the entire year as outlined in each student's IEP with the understanding that the goal of the school-based Speech and Language Therapy is to support and maximize educational participation in class.
  • Perform evaluations, including observation of the student in school settings and home settings if required.
  • Write formal reports based on standardized testing and observation in adherence with state and district timelines.
  • Review reports from other SLSs and make recommendations based on the report.
  • Provide informal appraisals of student needs as a member of the IEP Team and/or I&RS Committee when deemed appropriate.
  • Provide direct or consultative service. Direct services include individual, small group session, or integrated in-class activities.
  • Provide consultative services including observation of the student, review of work samples, consultation with parents and teachers, and participation in meetings.
  • Recommend equipment/materials and obtain measurements for equipment in a timely manner to assist the district in obtaining competitive quotes for necessary specialized equipment/materials.
  • Participate in the district's parent/teacher conferences, applicable parent clinics, and/or offer professional development training.
