About The Position

Under the supervision of a New York State licensed Speech Language Pathologist, this role provides intensive speech and language, feeding, and/or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services and therapy to an assigned caseload. The position involves developing and implementing therapeutic interventions, assessing and developing plans for communication, AAC, oral motor, and feeding needs, and evaluating, documenting, and monitoring treatment progress. The role also requires collaboration with parents, medical professionals, administrators, teachers, and other related service providers to ensure comprehensive educational plans meet individual student needs. The Clinical Fellow will also track hours, meet with their supervisor, adhere to CFY protocols, and follow the scope of practice outlined by ASHA. Additional duties may include documenting medical necessity for AAC devices and providing substitute teaching coverage as needed.

Requirements

Graduate degree in speech-language pathology from a New York State registered licensure qualifying program, a program accredited by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) or the equivalent (as determined by NYS Education Department)
Current certification and registration as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD), issued by the New York State Education Department
Strong writing and organizations skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs, specifically Word and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

Provides intensive speech and language, feeding and/or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services and therapy to assigned caseload consistent with students’ documented therapy goals, including those defined in areas of instructional and therapeutic focus and/or Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Develops and implements safe and appropriate therapeutic interventions; assists in development of feeding and meal-time plans, as needed.
Assesses and develops therapeutic plans that address the communication, AAC, oral motor and feeding needs of students based on their individual strengths and challenges.
Evaluates, documents and monitors treatment and progress in session notes, progress reports and evaluations in a timely manner.
Completes evaluations and assessments of students, establishing and updating therapeutic goals and/or Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as needed.
Communicates and collaborates with parents regularly and with medical professionals as needed, specifically as they impact the student’s educational plan, therapeutic goals and/or feeding or intervention plans.
Collaborates with administrators, teachers and other related service providers within the school setting to ensure that a comprehensive educational plan is in place to meet each students’ individual needs.
Keeps track of hours, meets with direct supervisor, and ensures their adherence to the protocols for their CFY.
Follows the scope of practice as outlined by the National Organization, American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
May assist with documenting medical necessity for AAC devices and work with providers or parents to facilitate authorizations, as needed.
May provide coverage as a substitute teacher for school-related activities and/or lessons, as needed.
Performs all other duties, as assigned.
