Requirements

An associate of arts or sciences degree from a speech-language pathology assistant program accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges and approved by the Board, OR
A bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders from an institution listed in the Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education handbook and completion of 70 hours field work/clinical experience from a Board-approved program, OR
70 hours field work or clinical experience in a bachelor's program in speech-language pathology or communication disorders from an institution listed in the Accredited Institutions of Postsecondary Education handbook which shall be evaluated by a speech-language pathology assistant program director or authorized designee.

Responsibilities

Collaborate and coordinate services with a Speech Language Pathologist to deliver speech and language support to students of all grade levels and work with staff and administrators to coordinate services as part of an integrated program.
Provide direct speech and language services to identified students with disabilities who meet the eligibility criteria established by federal and state law.
Provide push in, pull out, and/or consultative specialized instruction for students with exceptional needs.
Create lesson plans and materials to support students with speech and language needs in classrooms and in direct speech and language therapy.
Consult with general education teachers to ensure consistent implementation of IEPs and speech and language goals across all school environments.
Assess and analyze students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering speech and language skills and applying them to the classroom instruction.
Act as a resource to other staff and parents to help them to understand their student’s needs and to support them with suggestions to assist their students.
Provide legally defensible implementation of services, supports, accommodations, and modifications as provided by students’ IEPs.
Collect data on and monitor individual student performance, adjusting instruction and supports as necessary to ensure progress toward IEP goals.
Utilize assessment results, both formal and informal, to develop legally defensible and data-driven IEPs.
Develop student schedules to minimize loss of general education instruction.
Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with special education laws, as well as school policies and procedures.
Monitor timelines, interact with parents and other staff, and complete all paperwork, forms and reports.
