Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)
About The Position
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of high-quality speech and language services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). This role is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about helping students develop essential communication skills that support academic success and social-emotional growth. The SLPA works directly with students to implement individualized therapy plans, provide targeted interventions, and assist in progress monitoring. This position plays a key role in supporting students with a variety of communication needs, including language development, articulation, and social communication.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program
- Current SLPA licensure or certification (in accordance with state requirements)
- Experience working with children or students in an educational or clinical setting preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with literacy interventions and phonemic awareness strategies
- Experience with progress monitoring tools and data collection systems
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and MTSS frameworks
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with students and staff
- Flexible, proactive, and student-centered approach
Responsibilities
- Implement speech and language therapy plans developed by the supervising SLP
- Provide direct services to students individually and in small groups
- Assist with speech and language screenings, assessments, and data collection
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including session notes, attendance, and progress monitoring data
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff to support student progress and carryover of skills
- Support students with expressive/receptive language needs, pragmatic language development, articulation, and phonemic awareness
- Assist in identifying students who may benefit from speech and language interventions
- Participate in meetings as appropriate, including IEP, MTSS, and intervention planning meetings
- Adhere to all professional, ethical, and confidentiality standards
