About The Position

ACLD's Preschool Education Programs at Kramer Learning Center and The Alan and Ellen Spiegel Children’s Center are designed to meet the individual needs of young children diagnosed with developmental disabilities. Quality education and therapeutic services are provided during school hours by a highly trained, dedicated staff of professionals. Additional supports include Foster Grandparents, Pet Therapy and Music and Creative Arts Therapy programs. Preschool services offered at both Bay Shore sites include developmental evaluations, center-based classrooms and community based support services of a Special Education Itinerant Teacher and/or Itinerant related clinical services. ACLD (Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc.) is looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist to select, develop, maintain records, and implement intervention strategies for the treatment of children with communication and related disorders. Implementation of intervention procedures should be appropriately adapted to a trans-disciplinary, naturalistic teaching model. The school based speech-language pathologist should have competency in the areas of pediatric feeding, and communication. Specific performance areas include: diagnostics, receptive language, expressive language, pragmatics, oral motor/feeding skills, articulation, phonology, voice, and fluency.

Requirements

  • Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped Certification (T.S.H.H.) or Teacher of Students with Speech and Language disabilities (T.S.S.L.D.)
  • M.A. /M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Licensed in the State of New York
  • Must be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of preschoolers which may include, but not limited to, running, bending, and lifting of children when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP), preferred
  • Experience with pediatrics preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation and informal assessment.
  • Demonstrate professional report writing and time management skills.
  • Implement and coordinate goal oriented therapy, which incorporates environmental modifications, augmentative communication, modeling, expansion, feedback and the use of positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Attend CPSE meetings when needed.
  • Consultation with classroom staff.
  • Attend team and departmental meetings.
  • Communication regarding progress and carry over with families.
  • Evaluate students in preparation for Annual Review.
  • Prepare and set up treatment area for assigned children.
  • Demonstrate clinical flexibility.
