About The Position

This position provides both direct and consultation services to students with disabilities in the areas of speech and/or language. The Speech Language Pathologist will possess and maintain competency in assessment and evaluation techniques, follow compliance procedures and timelines with regard to student Individual Education Plans and evaluation reports, and work as a cooperative member of a multidisciplinary team. Additional responsibilities include determining the diagnostic needs of students related to language, speech, and hearing concerns, accurately identifying individuals with disorders, gathering diagnostic information, planning and conducting treatment programs, serving in a consultative role, interpreting diagnostic data to team members, exploring and implementing strategies to meet communication needs, and serving as a resource person in the area of language, speech, and hearing skills. The role also involves selecting activities for continuous professional growth and performing other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning and support student learning objectives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Indiana Speech Language Pathologist License through IPLA (Indiana Professional Licensing Agency).
  • American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs).
  • Proficient in the use of technology.
  • Organized and have the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver.
  • Excellent communicator with strong collaboration skills.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to communicate cooperatively and constructively with students, parents, and fellow staff members in a multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and consultation services to students with disabilities in the areas of speech and/or language.
  • Possesses and maintains competency in assessment and evaluation techniques.
  • Follows compliance procedures and timelines with regard to student Individual Education Plans and evaluation reports.
  • Works as a cooperative member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Determines the diagnostic needs of students related to language, speech, and hearing concerns.
  • Accurately and efficiently determines those individuals who exhibit disorders of language, speech and/or hearing.
  • Gathers diagnostic information concerning the student's standardized and informal tests and classroom observations.
  • Determines through competent examination, diagnostic procedures, and appropriate referral, the nature, etiology, and severity of the specific disability(s) of those individuals with language, speech, and/or hearing disorders.
  • Plans, conducts and modifies an appropriate treatment program for those individuals diagnosed as having language, speech and/or hearing disorders and arranges for the implementation programs.
  • Serves in a consultative role in planning and implementing language-speech improvement programs.
  • Interprets the results and conclusions of diagnostic data to professional team members.
  • Works cooperatively with team members in planning effective educational interventions for students.
  • Explores and implements with teachers, parents, team members and outside agencies (when appropriate) or other involved personnel appropriate strategies for meeting the communication needs of each child.
  • Serves as a resource person in the area of language, speech, and hearing skills.
  • Selects a variety of activities that ensure continuous professional growth.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.
