Requirements

  • MS, MA or M Ed degree or higher in Speech Pathology/Communication Disorders from a NYS Department of Education accredited program or ASHA accredited program.
  • NYS license in Speech Pathology
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology from ASHA
  • Current BLS Certification (or obtained at time of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations for inpatients and outpatients of all ages according to clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Consistently provide education to patients and families regarding their condition/treatment.
  • Provide therapy for patients of all ages consistent with clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Monitor and modify the treatment plan and goals as indicated by treatment response, monitor equipment use and safety, record patient charges.
  • Maintain appropriate, timely documentation including evaluation reports, daily progress notes, progress updates and discharge summaries.
  • Provide direct supervision in Speech Pathology students, aides and volunteers as delegated.
  • Participate in program planning and development for the department, interdisciplinary promotional activities and orientation of new staff.
  • Train or mentor new and existing staff in daily operations or special techniques for patient care as needed.
