About The Position

As a Speech Therapist at CHI St Vincent, the role involves increasing patient independence by assisting with safe eating and drinking, improving memory or cognitive issues, and enhancing communication. The position requires working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, and other health professionals. Key tasks include performing modified barium swallow studies to ensure safe diets for patients with swallowing issues, particularly those recovering from trauma, and conducting cognitive evaluations to assess decision-making abilities and address communication impairments. The ideal candidate is flexible, calm, compassionate, curious, adaptable, and committed to improving patient safety, independence, and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Masters Other Speech & Language Pathology, upon hire
  • Speech Language Pathologist: AR, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Perform modified barium swallow studies to determine a patient’s ability to swallow safely
  • Perform cognitive assessments to determine a patient’s ability to make decisions for themselves, remember basic information, control their emotions and interact appropriately with others
  • Document all assessment results and work with physicians and other clinicians to develop a plan of care and track all treatments and patient progress
  • Using exercises, modalities, and/or adaptive devices, work with patients to improve speech, memory, cognition, etc.
  • Educate the patient and families on these processes so they can make the best decisions for the patient
  • Consistently deliver the highest quality care to every patient
