About The Position

Devereux New York is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join their multi-disciplinary team. This role involves evaluating, remediating, and consulting on speech, language, voice, and hearing issues that affect student communication. The SLP will conduct student evaluations, prepare diagnostic reports, implement individual and group therapy programs, and track student progress. Additionally, the SLP will collaborate with staff to coordinate program planning, identify therapy needs, and integrate clinical recommendations regarding behavioral/emotional difficulties. Devereux New York serves children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Speech Pathology or Therapy
  • NYS Certification in Speech and Language
  • Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants or other chemical or controlled substances.
  • Significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting of 25 lbs or more.
  • Using standard crisis intervention procedures, must be able to singlehandedly effect the initial restraint of children and adolescents weighing between 75 and 150 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience remediating speech and/or language difficulties in a school, hospital, treatment facility, etc., is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating, remediating, and providing consultative assistance to unit staff on speech, language, voice, and hearing problems that impede student’s effective communication.
  • Evaluating students upon intake and preparing diagnostic reports on each evaluated student.
  • Conducting individual and/or group therapy programs.
  • Preparing reports to evaluate the progress of each student seen in therapy.
  • Liaising and consulting with staff to coordinate program planning, determine need for therapy, and implement recommendations of clinical staff in regard to behavioral/emotional difficulties.
