Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
About The Position
Devereux New York is seeking a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join their multi-disciplinary team. This role offers a supportive teaching environment with the opportunity to make a significant impact on student outcomes. The SLP will work with children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. The position involves evaluating, remediating, and consulting on speech, language, voice, and hearing problems that affect communication. The SLP will conduct intake evaluations, prepare diagnostic reports, lead individual and group therapy sessions, and monitor student progress. Additionally, the SLP will collaborate with staff to coordinate program planning, identify therapy needs, and implement recommendations related to behavioral/emotional difficulties.
Requirements
- Masters Degree in Speech Pathology or Therapy
- NYS Certification in Speech and Language (TSSLD) or in process.
- Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants or other chemical or controlled substances.
- Significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting of 25 lbs or more.
- Using standard crisis intervention procedures, must be able to singlehandedly effect the initial restraint of children and adolescents weighing between 75 and 150 lbs.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.

- Previous experience remediating speech and/or language difficulties in a school, hospital, treatment facility, etc., is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate students upon intake and prepare diagnostic reports.
- Conduct individual and/or group therapy programs.
- Prepare reports to evaluate the progress of each student seen in therapy.
- Liaison and consult with staff to coordinate program planning.
- Determine the need for therapy and implement recommendations of clinical staff in regard to behavioral/emotional difficulties.
