About The Position

This role administers speech and language evaluations, tests, or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients/patients/residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders. The position assesses individuals with various speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses. The Speech Language Pathologist provides speech and language services, monitors disease progression, and adjusts treatments accordingly. They instruct clients/patients/residents in practicing speech and language therapeutic exercises and provide consultation for those working through speech and language treatment processes. This role ensures all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols, and quality requirements are met. The position may treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnoses and disorders and requires demonstration of documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meeting all regulatory requirements. The role demonstrates the level of treatment associated with their specialty and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organizations. Flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments is expected, as is participation in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society, and Sanford Health. Interaction with individuals outside of the department, including providers, case managers, third-party payers, and public organizations, is anticipated. The role may be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students and is expected to provide ongoing education and training to peers in areas of expertise as determined by department leadership. Performs other related duties as requested by the manager. Based on the assigned area, work may focus on those receiving intervention in the post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments when applicable.

Requirements

  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • When working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred by GSS Facilities): Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or currently working on Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
  • When applicable, may require valid driver's license.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
