About The Position

At Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas, we provide specialized inpatient care for children and adolescents with complex medical, neurological, developmental, and behavioral health needs. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to helping patients achieve meaningful progress through compassionate, evidence-based care. We are seeking a passionate Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our growing rehabilitation team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside physicians, therapists, nurses, psychologists, educators, and behavioral specialists in a highly collaborative environment focused on improving communication, swallowing, cognition, and functional independence. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, communication, cognitive-linguistic, feeding, and swallowing disorders in pediatric patients with complex medical and neurodevelopmental conditions. The SLP develops individualized treatment plans, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and supports patients and families throughout the rehabilitation process. This role serves patients with diagnoses that may include: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Neurological disorders, Complex behavioral health conditions, Feeding and swallowing disorders, Communication and language delays.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current Texas Speech-Language Pathology License or eligibility for licensure.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), or Clinical Fellowship eligibility.
  • Current BLS Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric inpatient rehabilitation experience.
  • Experience working with medically complex pediatric populations.
  • Experience with autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with feeding and swallowing evaluations and treatment.
  • Familiarity with AAC devices and communication technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive speech-language, cognitive-communication, feeding, and swallowing evaluations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
  • Provide direct therapeutic interventions to improve communication, social interaction, cognitive function, and swallowing safety.
  • Assess and recommend augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems when appropriate.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans to maximize outcomes.
  • Complete documentation accurately and within established timelines.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and patient care conferences.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing staff, occupational therapists, physical therapists, behavioral health professionals, educators, and case managers.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment goals and home programming.
  • Assist with discharge planning and continuity of care recommendations.
  • Support a family-centered approach that promotes patient engagement and success.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, accreditation, and organizational standards.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental performance goals.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education and licensure requirements.
