About The Position

The Speech Language Pathologist is a member of the Therapies Center team who evaluates the physical and/or cognitive needs of a customer, establishes a care plan and provides or directs the individualized care of a customer within the specific scope of practice. The desired outcome of care is typically to prevent further impairments, improve function and the ability to participate in activities in order to promote greater independence and reduce the need for further care. The Speech Language Pathologist also serves to educate the customer, their caregivers or family about their role in the care plan. The Speech Language Pathologist functions as a part of the North Memorial Health interdisciplinary care team, collaborating as needed with other clinical and non-clinical team members in order to provide unmatched customer service. The Speech Language Pathologist is capable of and willing to function in all locations and areas where care is provided by the Therapies Center. The Speech Language Pathologist participates in training, orientation and education as required to provide care to specific diagnostic groups, units or locations as needed, and is competent to provide at least core or entry level skills with typical customers. The Speech Language Pathologist may pursue and obtain advanced level skills consistent with the discipline, for personal career growth and to provide care for specific customers or locations. The Speech Language Pathologist engages in regular review and discussion of Therapies Center operations and Quality improvement activities, providing input and clinical expertise in order to deliver evidence based and state of the art care, as well as ensure compliance with regulatory and community standards Capable of and willing to provide care across diagnostic groups, units or locations of service encompassing the service days and hours inherent of the Therapies Center Staffing Policy.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Consideration will be given to those seeking a Clinical Fellowship who have previous graduate student experience in the department.
  • A minimum of diagnostic group, hospital based acute care, inpatient rehabilitation care or outpatient neurological based clinical experience during training, residency or fellowship for new graduates.
  • Demonstrates entry level competency and skills.
  • A minimum of two years clinical experience for practicing therapists without experience in the Therapies Center diagnostic groups, units or locations of care.
  • Competency in accepted and evidence based Speech Language Pathology practice, with additional knowledge and skills as needed, specific to a diagnostic group, unit or location of service based on customer demand, departmental and North Memorial Health operations and strategy.
  • Ability to balance work priorities in a rapidly changing environment, exercising clinical decision making and good judgment in regard to customer experience.
  • Works well independently within scope of practice as well as Therapies Center policies, procedures and guidelines, in addition to being skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and advance professionalism among colleagues.
  • Seeks to advance and refine their skill set to demonstrate personal professional growth and meet the needs of the customer, department and North Memorial Health.
  • Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence, State of MN Licensure - State Requirement
  • Must possess current class D driver’s license in state of residency with an acceptable driving record if driving to alternate locations - NMHC Standard
  • Must provide annual proof of insurance per hospital policy if driving to alternate locations - NMHC Standard
  • Current CPR certification or completion of certification during orientation period - NMHC Standard

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced skills with specific, low incidence or high risk diagnostic groups, evaluation tools or treatment protocols is preferred.
  • Additional certifications beyond licensure are considered on a demand or organizational need basis.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend non-English languages is an additional benefit.
