About The Position

The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for Shelburne County Schools. This permanent position involves serving approximately 6100 students across twenty-two schools in Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby counties. The SLP will be part of a collaborative professional team with Student Services, including Speech Language Pathologists, School Psychologists, SchoolsPlus Staff, Student Services Consultants/Autism Support Teachers, Severe Learning Disabilities Teachers, and Resource Teachers. Responsibilities include collaborative consultation with school-based teams, informal and formal assessment, development of program plans to increase student success for those students with communication needs, and providing treatment. The SLP will also work closely with teachers, Teacher Assistants, Administrative Staff, other professionals, and parents. There may be times when travel to other schools within the Tri-Counties is required. The position is effective immediately following successful completion of TCRCE onboarding and security checks.

Requirements

  • Master Degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders or equivalent Master Degree.
  • Eligible for certification by the Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
  • Eligible for certification by Teacher Certification - Nova Scotia Department of Education.
  • Training in Assistive Technology.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional development in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist in a school setting.
  • Experience administering and interpreting standardized assessments.
  • Experience in facilitation speech pathology related professional development sessions.
  • Experience providing direct support to non-verbal students.
  • Experience providing support to school staff in the form of contributions to program plans and classroom implementation of strategies.
