About The Position

Are you a Speech-Language Pathologist interested in supporting children and their families? Are you interested in working in a team environment with other professionals such as psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, dietitians, behaviour therapists, mental health counsellors, and others? FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit Children’s Treatment Centre located in Northwestern Ontario. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening the health and well-being of families, children, and youth through emotional, physical, developmental, and community services. Clients can access FIREFLY service in a variety of locations: centre based, in community (fly-in and drive-in communities), in schools, pre-school and child care settings. FIREFLY offices are located throughout Northwestern Ontario, providing a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with children and families, local colleagues and community partners. FIREFLY delivers many of our services in partnership with local First Nation organizations and is committed to building cultural safety into all that we do. Pension Plan (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan HOOPP). Professional development opportunities including access to educational websites and opportunity to attend trainings. Vacation entitlement starting at 4 weeks per year with a gradual increase after 3 years as well as paid time off between Christmas and New Year's. Paid sick leave accrued monthly up to a maximum of 30 days. Additional paid days off: Wellness Days (3 total per fiscal year) and Community Service and Cultural Days (3 total per fiscal year). Option to work towards a self-funded leave (i.e. 4 over 5). Flexibility within the 35 hour workweek to meet the needs of the client and yourself. Opportunity to bank overtime to be used as additional vacation. Requirements

You love being a speech-language pathologist and want to work with children, youth and their families.

You know every child and youth has hidden strengths that you are craving to help expose and build.
You value the concept of teamwork but you’re able to work independently.

You generally don’t deal with a lot of conflict but when it arises you are able to mediate and problem solve.
You have a valid driver’s license.
You have a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen.
You love the great outdoors and adventure.
Master's degree in Communication Disorders
Member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
Demonstrated planning, organizational and facilitation skills

Nice To Haves

Understanding of the Anishinaabe culture, First Nation communities and language is a definite asset
Fluency in French would be an asset

Responsibilities

Engage in the screening, assessment, interpretation and rehabilitation of individuals with speech, language, feeding and swallowing impairments.
Participate in diagnostic clinics with other team professionals.
Provide information and support to family/caregivers to facilitate an understanding of client’s strengths and caregiver directed goal attainment and assist clients with funding and purchasing information for aids and equipment.
Facilitate access to community resources necessary to promote the optimal level of functioning of the client and family/caregiver.
Work collaboratively with caregivers and other service providers and educators to meet identified needs and enhance delivery of care.
Maintain documentation as per CASLPO guidelines and FIREFLY policies and procedures.
Supervise communication assistants which includes determining appropriate clients to assign, developing clear therapy goals and plan, as well as direct and indirect supervision.
