About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. The Speech Therapist works as a member of an interdisciplinary team with occupational therapists and physical therapists to provide the evidence-based, best practice evaluations and therapy techniques. This position will perform treatments and evaluations in our outpatient clinic, as well as in the Arkansas State Veteran's Home. Treatment plans will be used to restore, maintain or prevent decline of resident function, by planning and administering medically prescribed therapy treatments in accordance with federal, state and professional standards governing the facility. The duties of the Speech Therapist contribute in the effort to further the mission of UAMS: To improve the health and health care of Arkansans.

Requirements

  • Masters’ degree in speech language pathology
  • Licensed as a speech language pathologist in the state of Arkansas or eligible to apply and obtain license within one month of hire
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence or eligible pending completion of Clinical Fellowship year
  • Must possess problem-solving skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
  • Clinical experience with the geriatric population
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based, best practice evaluations and therapy techniques as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Perform treatments and evaluations in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Perform treatments and evaluations in the Arkansas State Veteran's Home.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans to restore, maintain, or prevent decline of resident function.
  • Administer medically prescribed therapy treatments in accordance with federal, state, and professional standards.
  • Contribute to the mission of UAMS to improve the health and health care of Arkansans.
