About The Position

UF Health Jacksonville invites applications for a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist to join our interdisciplinary team at the UF Health Jacksonville Leon L. Haley Jr., M.D., Brain Wellness Center. The Haley Brain Wellness Program is a specialized treatment program for military veterans, first responders, and adults experiencing persistent health issues associated with mild to moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI). As part of the Avalon Action Alliance, the Brain Wellness Center delivers interdisciplinary, holistic care through collaboration with more than 15 disciplines. We are seeking an SLP who will provide advanced evaluation and treatment for adults with mild to moderate TBI, with a primary focus on cognitive-communication rehabilitation. In this role, the SLP will conduct comprehensive assessments and implement individualized, evidence-based interventions to address impairments in attention, memory, executive function, problem-solving, and social communication. Treatment plans emphasize functional recovery, resilience, and reintegration into complex real-world roles, including work, community engagement, and interpersonal relationships. The SLP will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team—including physicians, neuropsychologists, physical and occupational therapists, and other specialists—to ensure therapy is fully integrated into personalized, holistic care plans. By providing expert intervention, patient and family education, and team-based collaboration, the SLP will play a vital role in helping patients achieve their recovery goals and enhance their quality of life on their post-trauma journey.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of Speech Language Pathology theory, procedures, practices and equipment
  • Good communication skills. Proactive, positive approach to problem solving
  • Thorough knowledge of possible hazards/necessary precautions/remedial actions in the care of patients
  • Ability to assess for and implement treatment programs for simple and complex therapy diagnoses.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Current Florida license as Speech-Language Pathologist
  • BLS from the American Heart Association
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA is required at hire or transfer into role (Effective March 1, 2018)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI), particularly in cognitive-communication rehabilitation.
  • Experience providing services within an interdisciplinary team in medical, rehabilitation, or military/veteran health settings.
  • Advanced training or certification in cognitive rehabilitation, neurogenic communication disorders, or related areas.
  • Familiarity with military and veteran populations and/or experience addressing co-occurring conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
  • Strong background in functional, goal-oriented therapy planning that supports reintegration into community, vocational, and social roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate evidence-based interventions into personalized care plans.
  • Experience with intensive outpatient or structured rehabilitation programs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and patient/family education skills.
  • Experience in Video Swallow Studies, Speaking Valve, Voice Prosthesis and FEES preferred.
