About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a PRN Speech-Language Pathologist to provide coverage for both Skilled Nursing and Home Health services. This role involves administering speech and language evaluations, diagnosing and planning treatments for patients with speech and swallowing disorders, and developing individualized treatment plans. The position requires adherence to departmental guidelines, regulatory requirements, and accepted clinical practice standards. The Speech-Language Pathologist will also be involved in patient education, consultation, and potentially supervising assistants, aides, and students. Flexibility with work schedules and assignments is expected, as is participation in departmental and organizational promotional activities. Interaction with external stakeholders such as providers, case managers, and third-party payers is also a component of this role. Depending on the assigned area, the focus may be on post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments.

Requirements

  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or currently working on Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
  • When applicable, may require valid driver's license.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language services to clients/patients/residents.
  • Administer speech and language evaluations, tests, or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients/patients/residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders.
  • Assess clients/patients/residents with various speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing problems and develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses.
  • Monitor disease progression and adjust treatments accordingly.
  • Instruct clients/patients/residents in practicing speech and language therapeutic exercises.
  • Provide consultation for clients/patients/residents working through speech and language treatment processes.
  • Ensure all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols, and quality requirements are met.
  • Demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate the level of treatment associated with their specialty provided to their clients/patients/residents.
  • Follow and adhere to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organizations.
  • Exhibit flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments.
  • Participate in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society, and Sanford Health.
  • Interact with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: providers, case managers, third party payers, public organizations, etc.
  • May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide client/patient/resident care, treatment, or other services.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by manager.
  • Based on assigned area, work may focus on those receiving intervention in the post-acute, long term care and home health care environments when applicable.
