About The Position

Walker Beacon High School, located in Watertown, MA seeks an SLP to provide direct therapy services to students with language development impairments and social communication deficits; consultation to teachers, parents and other professionals; and diagnostic services. Qualified candidates must be committed to student-centered, family-focused culturally competent care and strength based treatment.

Requirements

  • M.A. in Speech/Language Pathology
  • C.C.C. (ASHA certification)
  • DESE licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Experience working with children with mental health, emotional, and learning disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide focused speech and language interventions to language-disabled students in one-to-one or small group settings.
  • Conduct language groups for self-contained classrooms as needed.
  • Consult with teachers on language needs of language-disabled students and on ways of leading language groups.
  • Consult with parents directly and through clinicians on language difficulties of individual students.
  • Provide in-service education to teachers, clinicians and child care workers on language difficulties, diagnostics, and remediation.
  • Conduct annual pre-testing and post-testing in language development for students with language needs identified on their IEP.
  • Screen intake/admission materials to determine the speech and language needs of incoming students.
  • Provide formal and informal language diagnostic assessment as requested and approved by LEAs and parent(s).
  • Document client performance; write timely progress notes for Quarterly Progress reports.
  • Organize, monitor and maintain speech/language materials and testing supplies.
  • Write full assessment reports/language profile based on diagnostic results.
  • Attend TEAM meetings, IEP meetings, and Clinical Case Conferences as needed.
  • Supervise speech/language assistants/interns as directed by Principal; support assistant/intern in determining schedule, preparing materials/activities/lessons, monitoring progress of students).
  • Provide additional coverage to the school program as needed.
  • Participate fully in in-service training programs and staff meetings.
  • Apply Walker Beacon’s model of therapeutic interventions, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in student’s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans.
